Ukrainian president advocates for Europe's role in potential talks with Russia
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called for Europe to play a more prominent role in future negotiations with Russia, stressing that it should not merely be an observer in peace talks.
Speaking at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Zelenskyy emphasized the need for Europe to actively shape the terms of any agreements rather than responding after decisions have already been made, Caliber.Az reports.
"Europe deserves to be more than an observer. It should not be the case where European leaders only react on social media after agreements are reached. Europe should determine the terms of these agreements," Zelenskyy stated during his address, which was broadcast on YouTube.
The Ukrainian leader also highlighted Europe’s need to step up its engagement in various sectors, with particular emphasis on the energy industry.
His remarks come amid growing concerns about Europe's energy security and its dependency on Russian energy supplies in light of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Zelenskyy's comments underline his broader push for Europe to take a more active and decisive role in geopolitical affairs, particularly those related to Ukraine's sovereignty and the broader security of the region.
