Smuggling balloons with cigarettes crash in Polish forest
Two balloons carrying packages of contraband cigarettes have been found crashed in a forest in Poland, according to RMF 24, citing police.
The total number of smuggled cigarettes amounted to 4,000 units. Authorities have not officially confirmed the launch point of the balloons. However, preliminary data suggest they were launched within a 50-kilometre radius of Warsaw.
RMF 24 reported that the balloons may have originated from Belarus.
The contraband goods have been confiscated, and emergency services have completed their work at the scene.
According to the outlet, military radar systems have repeatedly detected unidentified objects entering Polish airspace near the eastern border in recent weeks. In most cases, these objects—balloons—have landed in the Podlaskie Voivodeship.
