Millions of Americans rally nationwide against US war in Iran

29 March 2026 16:46

On March 28, millions of Americans took to the streets in the third wave of “No Kings” demonstrations, protesting U.S. military action in Iran, controversial immigration enforcement, and what organisers described as the overreach of the Donald Trump administration, according to foreign media, cited by Caliber.Az.

Over 3,100 rallies were staged nationwide in cities including Washington D.C., New York, Boston, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. U.S. media reports estimate approximately 900,000 participants, making it the largest single-day protest in recent U.S. history. Previous waves drew an estimated 5 million people in June and 7 million in October 2025.

The flagship rally took place at the Minnesota State Capitol in Saint Paul, where organizers reported nearly 100,000 attendees despite chilly weather. Independent Senator Bernie Sanders criticized U.S. policies in Iran, saying the war must end immediately. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz called for justice for two citizens killed by ICE in January. Rock musician Bruce Springsteen performed his protest song “Streets of Minneapolis,” praising local resistance to federal immigration policies.

In New York City, tens of thousands of demonstrators marched across all five boroughs, chanting slogans including “No ICE,” “No Kings,” and “No Wars.” Actor Robert De Niro, one of the rally organizers, described the Trump administration as an existential threat to U.S. freedoms and security.

Washington, D.C., saw crowds gather at the Lincoln Memorial and march along the National Mall, holding signs reading “Regime change begins at home” and “Defend Our Constitution.” Demonstrators rang bells, played drums, and chanted “No Kings.”

Protests also spread across California, with thousands gathering in the San Francisco Bay Area, including a human banner at Ocean Beach. In Sacramento and West Sacramento, demonstrators protested rising fuel costs and federal immigration policies, highlighting the economic impact of the U.S. war in Iran on working families.

In Arizona, organisers confirmed more than 70 protests statewide, emphasising economic hardship amid ICE operations and tax policies favouring the wealthy.

Participants nationwide called for an end to U.S. military operations in Iran, justice for victims of federal immigration enforcement, and accountability for policies they said disproportionately harm working Americans.
