Intel chief: Threat to Russia from Poland, Baltic states persists

11 September 2023 16:05

Chief of Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service Sergei Naryshkin has said that the threat to Russia from Poland and the Baltic States remains,

He made the remarks while talking to journalists at the unveiling of a monument to Felix Dzerzhinsky at the Service’s headquarters, Gazeta.ru reports.

"The fact that threats to our country, our citizens from the north-west remain - yes, it is obvious," he said.

Thus, the head of the intelligence service responded to the journalist’s question of whether it is symbolic that the head of the open monument to Dzerzhinsky, like the original that stood on Lubyanka Square, is directed to the northwest - where the Baltic countries and Poland are located.

Meanwhile, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitriy Peskov has said Ukraine is "gravitating" towards continuing drone strikes on Russian territory.

He said that the military operation would continue in order to "completely stop" this threat over time.

According to the Kremlin spokesman, the Russian military, air defence and security services are improving "their methods of fighting, gaining experience".

"And, of course, here we hope that over time we will be able to more effectively and completely eliminate such threats," Peskov said.

He believes that the main thing is to continue the military operation "to the victorious end with that".

Peskov added this will help to "fundamentally eliminate this threat to our future".
