Russia accuses US of pushing Armenia towards "national suicide" With pro-Western agenda
The United States is allegedly driving Armenia towards "national suicide" by pushing the country to abandon its values, traditions, and beneficial economic ties, according to a statement from the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR).
The United States is said to be planning a propaganda campaign to discredit Armenia's cooperation with Russia, the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), and the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
The SVR also highlighted that the US State Department has noticeably intensified efforts to promote pro-Western civil society structures in Armenia.
Furthermore, the SVR asserts that the US aims to fully reorient Armenia's development towards a pro-Western trajectory, employing methods already tested in Ukraine and Moldova.
Meanwhile, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan expressed confidence that Armenia's relations with US will continue to grow under the presidency of Donald Trump. In a congratulatory message, Pashinyan emphasized the "unprecedented progress" in bilateral ties, grounded in shared values and mutual interests.
He acknowledged the significant role of the American-Armenian community in strengthening these ties and praised the cooperation between the two nations in areas such as peacekeeping, democracy, human rights, and economic development.
Pashinyan highlighted the importance of deepening trade, economic, and investment cooperation, and expressed hope for further growth in these areas. He also noted that Armenia’s government is working on initiatives like the "Crossroads of Peace" project to foster regional stability, including peace in the South Caucasus and the unblocking of communication channels.
