Russian woman accused of selling man for four boxes of sausages

A court in Russia's Stavropol region has ordered the pretrial detention of a woman accused of participating in the sale of a man who was allegedly exploited for forced labor and later exchanged for four boxes of sausage products.

The Stavropol regional courts' press service said that the Leninsky District Court of Stavropol approved an investigator's request to place the suspect, identified only as "M.," in custody. She is charged under Part 3 of Article 127.1 of the Russian Criminal Code, which covers the purchase and sale of a person for the purpose of exploitation, accompanied by the threat of violence, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

"The Leninsky District Court of Stavropol considered the investigator's petition to impose a preventive measure in the form of detention on citizen M., who is accused of committing a crime under Part 3 of Article 127.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (the purchase and sale of a person committed for the purpose of exploitation, accompanied by the threat of violence)," the court's press service said.

According to investigators, the suspect acted as part of an organized criminal group that took advantage of the victim's difficult life circumstances, state of alcohol intoxication, and loss of social ties. The man was allegedly held against his will in a private house, where he was forced to perform physical labor.

Investigators allege that members of the criminal group later sold the victim in exchange for four boxes of sausage products.

After reviewing the investigator's request and the evidence presented, the court ordered that the accused remain in pretrial detention for two months while the investigation continues.
