Pashinyan breaks silence on Armenia’s response to Israel’s genocide recognition
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said Armenia does not consider it necessary to respond to the Israeli government's decision to recognise the “Armenian genocide,” stressing that Yerevan is not interested in politicising the issue.
Speaking to reporters after a meeting of the board of the ruling Civil Contract party, Pashinyan commented on Israel’s recent move.
On June 28, the Israeli cabinet approved a draft resolution recognising the “Armenian genocide.” The document must now be submitted for a vote in the Knesset.
Asked whether Armenia intended to issue an official response to the Israeli government's decision, Pashinyan said he saw no need for such a step.
“I believe it is in the interests of our country not to become involved in the political instrumentalisation of the issue of genocide recognition,” the prime minister said.
He added that Armenia has no interest in turning the recognition of the “Armenian genocide” into a tool of political struggle.
