Number of countries buying Russian wheat falls from 43 to 16

The number of countries buying Russian wheat fell from 43 in August 2025 to just 16 in August this year, Elena Tyurina, director of the Russian Grain Union’s analytical department, has said.

According to Tyurina, Russia exported 1.7 million tonnes of grain in August, including 1.3 million tonnes of wheat, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

Exports of grains and legumes fell 3.5-fold, while wheat shipments declined 3.8-fold. Barley exports also dropped threefold.

Egypt was the largest buyer of Russian wheat, importing 450,000 tonnes, down 2.2-fold.

Bangladesh purchased 160,600 tonnes, down 1.7-fold, while Saudi Arabia imported 115,000 tonnes.

Nigeria received 52,000 tonnes, while Israel imported 41,500 tonnes. Purchases by Nigeria fell fourfold, while those by Israel dropped 15.5-fold.

New export destinations in August included Venezuela, which purchased 84,000 tonnes, Indonesia with 66,000 tonnes and Iran with 26,500 tonnes.

Exports to Sri Lanka increased 1.7-fold to 77,000 tonnes, while shipments to Yemen rose 8.5 per cent to 53,700 tonnes.
