Moscow hails youth role in building closer Russia-Armenia relations

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova has called for the development of the strongest possible relations between Russia and Armenia, emphasizing the role young people can play in strengthening bilateral ties.

Speaking at a briefing, Zakharova responded to a question about the potential role of engaged Armenian youth in advancing Armenian-Russian relations.

“I would not divide this by nationality, because young people — both Armenian and Russian — can play a role in developing bilateral relations. Our states are multinational, so let us nevertheless talk about the youth of the two countries. Yes, they can play a tremendous role,” she said.

According to Zakharova, younger generations can contribute to closer ties by promoting peaceful coexistence, friendship and stronger relations between the two countries.

She also pointed to the extensive social and cultural links between the Russian and Armenian peoples, including families formed between citizens of the two countries and generations that identify with both cultures.

“There is a modern foundation for this in the form of the huge number of families being created between citizens of the two countries. Entire generations have been born who do not separate themselves from the cultures of the two countries,” Zakharova said.

She stressed that bilateral cooperation should be expanded across all areas, citing the countries’ geographical proximity and Armenia’s access to transport routes through Russia.

“We need to develop relations in all areas. After all, there is geographical proximity, which is extremely important in terms of transport links and opportunities for Armenia to promote all its goods and capabilities through our country and to our country,” Zakharova emphasized.
