Berlin weighs expulsion of Russian diplomats over Leipzig Airport incident

The German government is discussing the possible expulsion of several Russian diplomats and the closure of Russia’s last operating general consulate in Germany, Der Spiegel reported on Tuesday, September 1.

The discussions were prompted by a drone incident at Leipzig Airport, according to the report.

Possible measures under consideration by the German government also include the closure of the Russian House in Berlin.

German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt and Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul are expected to appear together before the media to present the findings of the investigation into the Leipzig incident and outline possible government measures.
