A court in Moscow's Tagansky District has fined the Telegram messaging platform 3.5 million rubles (about $44,000) for publishing information prohibited from distribution in Russia, TASS reports.
The court found Telegram guilty under Part 2 of Article 13.50 of Russia's Code of Administrative Offenses, which concerns a social media platform owner's failure to monitor and restrict access to information related to drug production, methods of suicide, or materials containing pornographic images of minors.
“Find Telegram guilty under Part 2 of Article 13.50 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation and impose a fine of 3.5 million rubles,” the judge said while delivering the ruling.
