Argentina defender loses wife, children in Venezuela earthquake tragedy

The family of Argentine footballer Lucas Trejo has been found dead following the devastating earthquake in Venezuela, according to a statement released by Marítimo, the club for which he currently plays.

The bodies of Trejo’s wife and two children were discovered after 74 hours of search operations.

“Marítimo mourns the loss of Lucas Trejo’s family. We ask that his family and teammates be treated with respect during this difficult time,” the club said in a statement.

Trejo, 38, joined Marítimo as a free agent in February. Throughout his career, he has played in the domestic leagues of Venezuela, Peru, Mexico, Argentina, and Greece.

The earthquake, which struck Venezuela on June 24, caused widespread destruction and significant loss of life across several regions of the country.
