Iran bans women from appearing in commercials

08 August 2022 01:36

Iranian women have been banned from being shot in advertisements following a scandalous ice cream video.

Outrage among Iran's radical leaders was caused by a video in which a woman in a loose red headscarf bit off Magnum ice cream, Gazeta.ru reports citing India Times.

Iranian clerics were also outraged by the video and demanded to sue ice cream maker Domino, saying the ad was "contrary to social decorum" and "offends women's values".

As reported, after the Islamic revolution in 1979, wearing the hijab in Iran became mandatory. However, many women began to join new social media campaigns against street patrols requiring the wearing of the hijab, thus protesting "against the law".
