Jewish Congress demands apology from FM Lavrov for equating Russia's political isolation to Holocaust
The European Jewish Congress (EJC) has expressed its shock and concern following comments by Russian Federation Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov comparing Western governments’ support for Ukraine to Hitler’s Final Solution which resulted in the murder of six million Jews in the Holocaust.
"We are shocked and appalled by the shameful comparison drawn by Russian FM Lavrov between the support of the West for Ukraine and Hitler’s persecution and murder of six million Jews in the Shoah. This is Holocaust distortion at its most basic level", the statement by the President of the EJC, Ariel Muzicant, read.
Minister Lavrov stated on January 18 during a press conference that the US had put together a coalition of European states in regard to their offence initiative in Ukraine, in order to solve the “Russian question”, the same way that Hitler had organised a "Final Solution" for Europe’s Jews in the 1940's.
Caliber.Az recalls, that this is not the first time the minister was criticized by the Jewish community. Last spring, Lavrov compared Zelenskyy with Hitler, stating that the fact that Ukraine’s president is Jewish does not contradict Moscow’s claims that it launched the invasion to “denazify” the country, claiming that even Hitler “had Jewish blood.” The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs reacted sharply back then to Lavrov’s statements and summoned the Russian ambassador to the country to express its protest.
