Saudi Arabia, Syria discuss regional issues, cooperation during talks in Damascus
A delegation from Saudi Arabia and Syria’s new leader Ahmed al-Sharaa have discussed the current situation in Syria, as well as regional issues in Damascus.
The meeting was held in Damascus, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
In an interview with Asharq Al-Awsat, al-Sharaa spoke about the possibility of cooperation with Saudi Arabia to promote the country’s development.
"Saudi Arabia has developed bold plans and has a vision for progress, which we are also eagerly awaiting," he added.
Earlier, al-Sharaa emphasised the shared desire of Syria and Saudi Arabia to develop cooperation and economic ties. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held talks with al-Sharaa in Damascus.
Later, Fidan stated that the international community must lift sanctions against Syria as soon as possible to assist in its reconstruction. Jordan's Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi also plans to visit Damascus. On December 8, the Syrian armed opposition declared that it had seized control of Damascus and was working on forming transitional governing bodies.
