Kremlin confirms potential expansion of defence cooperation with Venezuela
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has confirmed that Russia and Venezuela might expand their defence cooperation, emphasizing the strong bilateral relations between the two countries.
His comments came in response to a journalist's question about the future of Russia-Venezuela defence ties, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
"We are developing our relations with Venezuela in all areas, including sensitive ones," Peskov stated, highlighting the breadth of cooperation between Moscow and Caracas. This statement was reported by Gazeta.ru, signalling the possibility of deepening defence partnerships.
When asked specifically about the expansion of defence cooperation, Peskov confirmed the likelihood of such developments, noting that both nations are in alignment on this matter. "We are aware of mutual plans on the part of the Venezuelan leadership," he said, adding that these plans "are in line with the interests of both countries."
Prior to that, the public was informed that the incumbent Venezuelan President Maduro won the Venezuelan presidential election with 51.2 per cent of the vote.
He will take office on 10 January 2025. A total of ten people competed for the highest state post in the republic. The main contenders for the post of president of Venezuela were the incumbent head of state Nicolas Maduro and the candidate from the right-wing parties Edmundo Gonzalez.
