Armenian authorities probe assets linked to revanchists Galstyan, Ajapahyan
Armenian law enforcement agencies have begun a wide-ranging investigation into the property and assets connected to associates of revanchists Bagrat Galstyan and Mikayel Ajapahyan, following their arrests and the opening of criminal cases against them.
Galstyan, described by Armenian media as a revanchist, and Ajapahyan, head of the Shirak Diocese (ecclesiastical jurisdiction of the Armenian Apostolic Church), were detained earlier this month, Calibre.Az reports.
Both face charges related to an alleged attempt to overthrow the government.
According to reports by the Armenian newspaper Zhoghovurd, investigations are not limited to the two clerics themselves but extend to individuals who have had any form of contact with them.
The move comes amid heightened scrutiny of groups accused of plotting to destabilise the Armenian state.
The court has ordered a two-month detention for both men as inquiries continue.
