EU hails Armenia’s "democratic reforms", notes progress in Azerbaijan talks
On June 30, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas praised Armenia’s commitment to democratic reforms during a meeting with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, signalling the EU’s readiness to deepen ties.
Kallas described the reforms as vital both domestically and as a foundation for Armenia’s external partnerships, highlighting the importance of protecting democratic values amid hybrid threats, disinformation, and external interference, Caliber.Az reports per Armenian media.
“The EU stands ready to support Armenia in strengthening its resilience,” Kallas said.
She noted that Armenia and the EU have never been closer and emphasised the significance of the trilateral statement signed in Brussels on April 5, 2024, between Armenia, the EU, and the United States.
On regional matters, Kallas welcomed positive developments in Armenia-Azerbaijan bilateral talks, describing them as a potential foundation for lasting stability and peace in the South Caucasus.
Prime Minister Pashinyan thanked the EU for its ongoing support and reiterated his government’s commitment to democracy and peace.
The officials discussed deepening cooperation on democratic institutions, the rule of law, and governance reforms, as well as progress in the visa liberalisation process.
