Türkiye detains 74 irregular migrants in two operations off Izmir coast
Turkish coast guard forces have detained a total of 74 irregular migrants in two separate operations off the Izmir coast in western Türkiye, according to an official statement, cited by Turkish media.
The Coast Guard Command said a mobile radar detected a rubber boat carrying irregular migrants off the coast of Dikili, prompting the dispatch of a coast guard vessel and boat to the area. Teams intercepted the vessel and detained 50 migrants, including seven children.
In a separate incident off the coast of Menderes, a mobile coastal surveillance unit identified another rubber boat carrying irregular migrants. Coast guard teams intercepted the boat, detained 24 migrants, and brought them ashore.
Following initial procedures, all migrants were transferred to the Izmir Provincial Directorate of Migration Management for further processing.
