Lithuania receives €6 million Israeli anti-tank missile shipment
The Lithuanian Armed Forces have received a new batch of Israeli-made LR2 Spike anti-tank missiles, valued at six million euros, the Defence Ministry announced on August 19.
The Spike missiles are being integrated with Lithuania’s Boxer-type infantry fighting vehicles, known locally as Vilkas, which are also fitted with Israeli-made turrets, Caliber.Az reports, citing Lithuanian media.
"By upgrading the Lithuanian Armed Forces, we are also ensuring the ability of our army to stop enemy forces from entering the territory of the country. This is a clear strategic signal and a consistent step towards increasing our combat power," Defence Minister Dovile Šakalienė said.
During a visit to Israel in April, Šakalienė met with Rafael, the manufacturer of the Spike missiles, to discuss bilateral cooperation.
Officials at the time said discussions included launching local production of Spike missiles, as well as the potential manufacture of 120mm ammunition, drones, and anti-drone systems with Israeli firms Elbit Systems and IAI.
The minister previously rejected criticism of her visit, which came amid ongoing concerns over alleged war crimes linked to Israel’s military campaign in Gaza.
