Lithuanian president calls for balanced European partnership with US
Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda has urged for a more balanced global leadership model, suggesting that Europe must share the responsibility with the United States rather than leaving it solely on Washington’s shoulders.
Speaking to journalists, Nausėda emphasized that while the U.S. will undoubtedly remain the global leader due to objective factors, the European Union should strive to become an equal partner, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
"There is no doubt that the United States will remain the global leader, as this is determined by objective factors. However, the European Union can and should become an equal partner to the U.S.," Nausėda stated.
The Lithuanian president acknowledged the challenges Europe faces in achieving this goal, recognizing that much work lies ahead.
"We have a lot of work ahead of us," Nausėda said, highlighting the need for concerted effort to build a stronger, more cooperative relationship between Europe and the United States.
He also underlined the necessity of new leadership in the West, asserting, "It is clear today that the free world needs a new leader. Europeans are ready to take on this challenge." Nausėda's comments reflect growing calls within Europe for a more prominent and equal role in shaping global leadership and security policy.
