Nighttime drone attack damages infrastructure in Ukraine’s Sumy region
In the early hours of August 8, the city of Shostka in Ukraine’s Sumy region came under attack by Shahed drones.
While the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ air defence successfully intercepted several of the Russian unmanned aerial vehicles, the strike nonetheless caused damage, Caliber.Az reports, citing Ukrainian media.
Oleh Hryhorov, head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, reported that three drones struck the Shostka community, damaging several apartment buildings, vehicles, and social infrastructure facilities.
Emergency responders, utility workers, and specialists are currently on site assessing the extent of the destruction and conducting repairs. Authorities have pledged to provide full assistance to owners of damaged or destroyed property.
The nearby Sumy community was also affected by the attack. Although there were no fatalities, several non-residential buildings, a shop, and a private car sustained damage. A 54-year-old man was injured; medical teams promptly treated him at the scene, and he is now recovering on an outpatient basis.
Sumy region remains one of the most frequently targeted border areas in Ukraine, regularly experiencing shelling and attacks amid the ongoing conflict.
