US may ease curbs on Iranian oil, Treasury chief says

The United States may consider easing restrictions on Iranian oil already at sea as part of efforts to stabilise global supply, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said.

He also indicated that Washington could undertake a unilateral release of oil from its strategic reserves if needed, Al Jazeera reports.

Bessent noted earlier this week that Iranian oil tankers have been departing the Strait of Hormuz with the awareness of US authorities, contributing to global supply flows.
