UK PM Starmer condemns Iran’s strike on Qatar energy facility
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned Iran’s attack on an energy facility in Qatar, in a post on X.
“I condemn in the strongest terms the overnight Iranian strike on a Qatari gas facility.
We are working towards a swift resolution to the situation in the Middle East, in the best interests of the British people – because there is no question that ending the war is the quickest way to reduce the cost of living,” he wrote.

We are working towards a swift resolution to the situation in the Middle East, in the best interests of the British people – because there is no question that ending the war is the quickest…
On March 19, Iranian forces launched missile strikes on Qatar’s Ras Laffan Industrial City, home to one of the world’s largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) export hubs, causing extensive damage and fires that disrupted operations at the facility.
The escalation followed an Israeli airstrike on Iran’s South Pars gas field, prompting Tehran to warn that Gulf energy infrastructure could be targeted in retaliation, widening the conflict into critical energy sites.
Qatar condemned the assault as a dangerous violation of its sovereignty, expelled Iranian military attaches, and reported that no casualties were immediately announced despite significant infrastructure harm.
The strikes have had immediate global economic effects, with international gas and oil prices surging sharply amid fears of sustained disruption to supply from a region that accounts for a large share of world LNG exports.
