NATO chief: Hormuz blockade unacceptable, allies consult on response
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has stated that alliance countries are discussing security in the Strait of Hormuz.
He made the remarks during a joint press conference with the President of Romania, per Caliber.Az.
Rutte noted that NATO supports U.S. actions to deter Iran’s military capabilities, including its nuclear and missile programs.
According to him, U.S. measures are important not only for European security but also for stability in the Middle East and the safety of Israel.
Rutte emphasised that blocking or restricting navigation in the strait is unacceptable and that restoring free passage as soon as possible is critically important, given its impact on the global economy.
He added that the allies are holding intensive consultations among themselves and with the U.S. to determine further steps amid rising tensions.
