Media: Poland begins developing artillery systems based on lessons from war in Ukraine
Polish military personnel are learning from the Ukrainian Armed Forces in such areas as engineering operations, the use of drones, and electronic warfare systems.
Meanwhile, the Polish artillery is focused on adapting firing tables for Western ammunition, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
Head of the military technology and development division at Poland's Main Directorate of Rocket and Artillery Troops, Colonel Wojciech Dalka emphasised that the war in Ukraine has highlighted the urgent need to accelerate the modernisation and optimisation of artillery systems.
He said that Poland's artillery units continue developing the Regina divisional sets with Krab howitzers and the Rak battalion systems, which feature autonomy and integrated command.
Dąlka noted that these systems require additional components, such as technical support vehicles. Specifically, the war in Ukraine has validated the direction taken in the development of artillery systems. The Polish side thinks that the traditional view of having sufficient ammunition reserves is outdated.
Even millions of shells per year may prove insufficient for modern conflicts. This underscores the need for expanding logistical infrastructure, including storage, transportation, and centralized ammunition management. Poland is also eager to adopt lessons from the Ukrainian military in the field of engineering operations, as the creation of shelters and storage facilities has taken on renewed importance.
