Moscow, New Delhi working to discharge Indian nationals from Russian army
The Russian embassy in New Delhi has said that Russia and India are working together to dismiss Indian citizens serving in the Russian army.
"The relevant departments of both countries are closely coordinating work on the early identification and dismissal of Indian citizens who voluntarily joined the military service in Russia. All contractual obligations and compensation payments due will be fulfilled in full," the diplomatic mission said, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
The embassy also said that from April 2024, the enrollment of citizens of some foreign countries, including India, to serve in the Russian army has been stopped.
In July, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a visit to the Russian capital, raised the issue of early dismissal of his country's citizens from the Russian military. We are talking about residents of India who were "misled" when accepted for service in the Russian Armed Forces. In total, the head of the government asked Moscow for early dismissal of 35 to 50 people.
