Moscow-Yerevan allied relations simply collapsing Russian pundit says
Russian political scientist Aslan Rubaev has said that allied relations between Moscow and Yerevan are simply collapsing.
"In fact, Pashinyan's statement on the suspension of Armenia's participation in the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) is an absolutely expected step on Armenia's part. We see how unilaterally, unfortunately, allied relations are now collapsing. They are not that they are going through a crisis, they are simply collapsing," the pundit told Armenian media, Caliber.Az reports.
"Pashinyan cut the very allied umbilical cord that connected Moscow and Yerevan, not realizing that by doing so he removes the very CSTO shield that protected Armenia. Now Armenia becomes the most vulnerable in terms of security.
I think that the next step will be the liquidation of the Russian military base, which has been in Armenia for quite a long time.
Now we will clearly see the next steps to dismantle our international relations. Now the investment climate that was coming from Russia and, in principle, some of the economic flows that were coming to Armenia, will be noticeably reduced. From the economic point of view, Armenia has lost.
From the military and geopolitical point of view, it ceases to be interesting for Moscow, and the vectors are now shifting to Azerbaijan. It should be stated that if earlier we said that Armenia was Russia's main strategic partner in the South Caucasus, now, most likely, its place will be taken by Azerbaijan. And this is not in favor of Armenia.
In this case, they want to use Armenia as a testing ground for NATO's military presence, which will be done. And it is not in vain that Pashinyan sent this message after his meeting with Macron. We know very well that it is Paris and Washington that have the greatest influence on Armenia's foreign and domestic policy today. Therefore, in this case, Pashinyan's stance is more than clear," the political analyst said.
