Georgian opposition delays protest rally amid ongoing election dispute
The Georgian opposition has adjusted its plans for November 5 protest. The rally, initially scheduled to begin earlier, will now start at 3:00 PM outside the Tbilisi Court of Appeals.
This change comes as the court reviews decisions made by the district courts in Tetritskaro and Gori, which set important precedents by siding with NGOs on election violations, Caliber.Az reports per Georgian media.
Previously, opposition leaders had called on supporters to gather at 2:00 PM outside the Palace of Sports. The protest is part of a broader movement following claims of widespread voter fraud, with opposition leaders demanding new elections.
At a rally outside the Georgian Parliament on November 4, leaders from three opposition coalitions announced the start of daily protests. They have accused the government of large-scale vote rigging and are calling for fresh elections.
Over 1,300 complaints filed by opposition parties and NGOs regarding various election violations are currently being reviewed in courts. While most claims have been dismissed, the courts in Tetritskaro and Gori have set significant precedents. In Tetritskaro, the district court annulled election results from 30 polling stations due to allegations of ballot transparency issues, ruling that voter secrecy had been violated. In Gori, the court ordered the recount of invalid ballots in 15 polling stations.
