Drone attack leaves Russia’s Gelendzhik without power

09 September 2026 17:54

A drone attack has damaged an electrical substation in Russia’s Gelendzhik, causing power outages, Alexey Bogodistov, the city’s mayor, has said.

He stated that, as a result, the Tonky Mys and Severny districts, several gardening associations, the village of Maryina Roshcha, as well as individual streets in Gelendzhik were left without electricity, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

"There are no fatalities or injuries. Operational and emergency services are working at the site. Specialists are working to restore power supply,” the mayor noted.

Bogodistov urged residents not to film or publish footage of the aftermath of the attack, the locations where drones fell, the operation of air defence systems or the actions of emergency services.

Earlier in the morning, he said the previous night had been the most alarming for Gelendzhik.

“The enemy drone raid on the city was the largest and most prolonged. Multiple drones were detected and engaged throughout the night by air defence systems and mobile fire teams over the city,” the mayor wrote.

At around 3 pm Moscow time, he announced a drone threat, while residents reported hearing explosions.
