Armenia proposes sharp increase in citizenship fees
09 September 2026 12:52
Armenia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs has proposed significantly increasing government fees for acquiring and renouncing Armenian citizenship, according to a document published on the country’s legal acts portal.
Under the proposal, the fee for acquiring Armenian citizenship would rise fivefold to approximately $680, while the fee for renouncing citizenship would increase tenfold to around $4,100, Caliber.Az reports per Armenian media.
The proposed changes come after Deputy Interior Minister Armen Kazaryan said in August that the procedure for ethnic Armenians to obtain Armenian citizenship was overly simplified and needed to be revised.
The ministry has not yet indicated when the proposed fee increases could take effect.
