Russia, Türkiye call for regional solutions in South Caucasus

Russia and Türkiye have held consultations on developments in the South Caucasus, cooperation in Central Asia and the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

The Turkish delegation was led by Mehmet Samsar, Director General for the South Caucasus, Central Asia and Eastern Europe at the Turkish Foreign Ministry, while Russia was represented by Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Russian Foreign Ministry.

The sides discussed the need to prevent external initiatives from creating new dividing lines in Central Asia and the South Caucasus.

“The inadmissibility of introducing from outside any initiatives that would create new dividing lines in Central Asia and the South Caucasus was noted,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

The sides also reaffirmed their interest in maintaining regular work within the 3+3 Regional Cooperation Platform, which brings together Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia, along with Russia, Iran and Türkiye.

“In this context, the sides emphasized their interest in continuing the regular work of the 3+3 Regional Cooperation Platform (Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia plus Russia, Iran and Türkiye) as a promising mechanism for strengthening stability and security based on the principle of ‘regional responsibility,’” the ministry said.
