Siberian authorities sound bear alert after fatal forest attack

In light of an increase in wild bears making their way into residential areas, authorities in southwest Siberia have raised the official public alert level. 

The regional Ministry of Forestry and Hunting issued this warning in five municipalities across Russia’s Kemerovo Region, also known as Kuzbass, as Caliber.Az reports citing Russian media. 

The situation has also raised concerns in the nearby Krasnoyarsk Region, where a bear attacked and killed two elderly women who had gone into the forest to pick mushrooms. Their bodies were later found close to one another, with the animal reportedly concealing the remains nearby. Another 10 cases relating to bear sightings in populated areas have been recorded in the region.
