Moscow moves to overhaul bomb shelters amid missile threat

09 September 2026 20:58

Moscow authorities have allocated 39 million rubles (approximately $420,000) to carry out major repairs at nine bomb shelters across three districts of the Russian capital, Ostorozhno, Moskva reports, citing the government procurement portal.

The renovation projects will cover shelters located on Azovskaya, Bolotnikovskaya and Nagornaya streets, as well as Leninsky Avenue.

The planned works include restoring entrances, partitions and doors, refurbishing interior finishes and upgrading water supply, electricity, sewage, ventilation and communications systems. The renovations are scheduled to be completed by November 30.

The tenders were announced following statements from Ukraine about the possible deployment of domestically produced ballistic missiles capable of reaching Moscow by the end of 2026.

Ukrainian defence company Fire Point and former Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov have announced the F-9 missile project. The missile is reportedly designed to carry a payload of up to 800 kilograms and strike targets at distances of up to 850 kilometres.
