IRGC warns ships of consequences for entering Iran’s exclusion zone

Any vessel entering an exclusion zone declared by Iran in the vicinity of the Strait of Hormuz will be denied maritime, insurance and logistical services, a spokesman for Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said.

The IRGC representative said the precise coordinates of the zone would be announced at a later stage. Any vessel violating the restriction would remain ineligible for the relevant services even after subsequently passing through the Strait of Hormuz, he said.

According to the spokesman, the exclusion zone begins approximately off Chabahar and extends across part of the waters of the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea.

The announcement comes as Iran tightens restrictions on maritime traffic in waters it has declared off-limits.
