Trump predicts new Great Depression for US
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has said that the US may plunge into an economic crisis akin to the Great Depression of 1929-1939 if Democratic Party candidate Kamala Harris wins the presidential election.
"If Kamala wins, you are just three days away from the beginning of an economic depression reminiscent of 1929. I am confident of that," he said while addressing supporters in Gastonia city, North Carolina, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
Trump remarked that under the current administration, inflation has "shredded" what was once a strong American economy.
"If victory is mine, you will be just three days away from the best jobs, the highest salaries, and a bright economic future," he stated.
Previously, Trump expressed doubts about Harris's ability to negotiate with Russia.
He stated that it is very dangerous to grant significant power to "an extremely weak and incompetent person with a very low IQ."
The US presidential election is set for November 5, 2024, with the winning candidate poised to serve a four-year term beginning in January 2025.
In the Republican Party, ex-president Donald Trump has secured a commanding lead over his competitors, ultimately becoming the official nominee at the party convention held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Trump has selected Ohio Senator JD Vance as his vice-presidential running mate.
On the Democratic side, Vice-President Kamala Harris has entered the race following President Joe Biden's withdrawal, with no other Democratic contenders emerging against her. Harris has chosen Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate.
