NATO combat groups to hold artillery drills in Lithuania
Artillery exercises of the combat group of the NATO Advance Forces will be held on the coast of the Baltic Sea in Lithuania.
As reported by Interfax, referring to the press service of the Lithuanian Armed Forces, "On August 29-30, the Kairyu firing range (Klaipėda region) will be a training group of NATO Advance Forces deployed in Lithuania, during which the artillery unit belonging to the combat group will fire in the Baltic Sea area".
The exercise will involve 155 mm self-propelled howitzers PzH2000 of the German Armed Forces with "more than 100 shots" to be fired "at naval targets located 15-25 km from the shore".
The firing zone will be restricted to navigation and flight, and access to the Kairyu firing range will be restricted.
It is further noted, that "the Kairyu firing range is a regular part of the training of gunners with similar exercises being regularly conducted by allies deployed in the country and Lithuanian soldiers. This type of howitzer is also armed with the artillery division of the infantry brigade 'Gelezinis Vilkas' ('Iron Wolves') of the Lithuanian Armed Forces under the command of General Romuald Gedraitis".
