India test-fires missiles as tension with Pakistan escalates
India has conducted a successful test-firing of multiple missiles, demonstrating its capability to strike distant targets with precision.
The Indian Navy announced the successful long-range anti-ship missile tests, reaffirming its readiness for offensive strikes, Caliber.Az reports, citing Western media.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), the Navy highlighted that the tests were part of ongoing efforts to validate and demonstrate the proficiency of its platforms, systems, and crew.

Although the Navy did not specify the exact missiles used, the move comes amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan following a deadly attack on April 22 in Jammu and Kashmir. The attack, which targeted a popular tourist area, claimed the lives of 26 people, prompting New Delhi to accuse Pakistan of involvement. In response, India has announced a series of punitive measures against Islamabad, including downgrading diplomatic ties and suspending a critical water-sharing agreement.
Pakistan has denied the allegations, calling the accusations unfounded. In retaliation, Islamabad expelled Indian diplomats, closed its airspace to Indian-owned airlines, and suspended limited trade between the two nations. These diplomatic and military responses reflect the deepening animosity between the nuclear-armed neighbours.
Missile tests are often conducted by nations to assert military strength and send a direct message to adversaries. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, speaking on his monthly radio address, reiterated that India would hold those responsible for the attack accountable. "I once again assure the affected families that they will get justice, and justice will be done," Modi said, underscoring the government's resolve to pursue justice for the victims.
