CNN: Trump administration develops plan to end war in Ukraine
The administration of US President Donald Trump has drawn up a plan aimed at bringing the war in Ukraine to a definitive end.
Thus, the proposal would require Kyiv to accept the territorial losses it has suffered since early 2022, including the recognition of Crimea as part of Russia, Caliber.Az reports per CNN.
Sources told the broadcaster that Trump has grown increasingly frustrated with the failure of previous peace initiatives. As a result, the White House is said to be stepping up efforts to push for a negotiated settlement to the conflict.
The plan has not yet been publicly disclosed, and it remains unclear whether it has been formally presented to either the Ukrainian or Russian sides.
To recall, during Pope Francis's funeral at the Vatican in April 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy engaged in a significant diplomatic conversation, marking a potential shift in U.S. involvement in the Ukraine conflict.
This unexpected meeting, facilitated by the solemn occasion, was described as "very productive" by both leaders, with discussions focusing on initiating a ceasefire and exploring avenues for a durable peace in Ukraine.
Following the meeting, President Trump publicly expressed skepticism regarding Russian President Vladimir Putin's intentions and hinted at the possibility of imposing new sanctions should Russia fail to demonstrate a commitment to ending the conflict. This stance represented a departure from Trump's earlier, more conciliatory remarks about Putin.
Despite the optimistic tone of the encounter, substantive policy changes remain uncertain. Analysts point to Trump's unpredictable decision-making and his previous alignment with Russian narratives as factors that may undermine Ukraine's position. Additionally, Trump's insistence on Ukraine recognizing Crimea as Russian territory—a proposition unacceptable to Kyiv—highlights the complexities of achieving a consensus.
