M-Class solar flares possible on September 14–15

M-class solar flares, the second-highest level in the standard classification, could occur on September 14 and 15, according to experts at the Institute of Applied Geophysics.

“Solar flare activity is generally low, but M-class flares are possible,” the scientists said.

Solar flares are classified into five categories based on the intensity of their X-ray radiation: A, B, C, M and X. Each successive class represents a tenfold increase in intensity, with X-class flares being the strongest.
