14 September 2026 14:02
Bulgarian Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev has ordered inspections of weapons and ammunition storage facilities across the country following a fire at a site belonging to arms manufacturer EMKO.
Joint teams will be set up to inspect each such facility for compliance with safety requirements, Caliber.Az reports, citing Bulgarian media.
“It is important not simply to comply with minimum standards, but also to take adequate measures to protect such facilities,” Demerdzhiev said.
Meanwhile, authorities in Gabrovo Province noted that the EMKO warehouse had been inspected four to five days before the fire and no violations were found.
The fire broke out late in the evening on September 11.
