Official: Jabrayil hub key to exporting Azerbaijani “green” energy to Europe via Armenia
The development of infrastructure for exporting “green” energy from Azerbaijan to Türkiye and onward to Europe remains a top priority for the two countries’ energy agendas.
Azerbaijan’s Energy Minister, Parviz Shahbazov, said this at the 4th Azerbaijan-Türkiye Energy Forum in İzmir, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
He explained that in the first phase, 1,000 MW of electricity produced in Nakhchivan is planned for export to Türkiye and Europe, with preparatory processes needing acceleration.
“Speeding up these processes has become particularly relevant given new realities. Effective electricity connections between Nakhchivan and Türkiye remain one of the key issues to resolve for the supply of ‘green’ energy from other regions of Azerbaijan, the Caspian, as well as from Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan via the Jabrayil energy hub through Armenian territory to Nakhchivan, and then onwards to Türkiye and Europe,” Shahbazov stated.
He also noted that a Technical Brief has already been prepared for the “Azerbaijan–Georgia–Türkiye–Bulgaria Green Energy Corridor” project.
“It is necessary to act intensively and stick to the schedule. I am confident that this forum will make an important contribution to the implementation of all projects,” he added.
