President: Good opportunities to further develop Azerbaijan-Georgia cooperation

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has said that there are good opportunities to further develop mutually beneficial cooperation between Azerbaijan and Georgia and enrich it with new content.

He made the remarks in a congratulatory letter to Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili on Independence Day on May 26, Caliber.Az reports.

“I cordially congratulate you and convey best wishes on my own behalf and on behalf of the people of Azerbaijan on the occasion of Independence Day on May 26,” the letter said.

Furthermore, the president expressed gratification to see today’s level of relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia “nurturing from the will of our peoples living in the conditions of centuries-long friendship, good neighbourhood and harmony”.

“Mutual support and confidence, close collaboration, and large regional projects we implement jointly are fundamental factors defining our strategic partnership and alliance. Today, there are good opportunities to further develop our mutually beneficial cooperation and enriching it with new contents, and elevating our partnership to the higher level that would serve to the prosperity of our countries and thriving of our region.

I am confident that we will succeed to further foster traditional friendly ties between Azerbaijan and Georgia, and expand our mutually beneficial interaction both bilaterally and multilaterally by our joint efforts in line with interests of our peoples.

On such a remarkable holiday, I wish you good health, happiness, success in your activities, and everlasting peace and prosperity to the friendly people of Georgia,” the letter reads.

Georgia recognized the independence of Azerbaijan in 1991. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on November 18, 1992. The Azerbaijani Embassy in Georgia has been operating since March 1996. The Georgian Embassy in Azerbaijan has been operating since February 1995.

Friendly and neighbourly relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia have historical roots; they have always been at a high level. “Agreement on strengthening friendship, cooperation and mutual security between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Georgia”, dated March 8, 1996, which laid the foundation for a strategic partnership between the two countries, and “Joint Declaration between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Georgia”, which was signed on the 4th of March 2004, are both important for the future development of constructive relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia.
