Qatar, Iran focus on Gaza conflict resolution in Tehran
Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani has met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Tehran to discuss efforts to resolve the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip.
A post on X states that the sides focused on the current situation in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories, as well as mediation efforts aimed at reaching a ceasefire agreement, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
During their discussions, the two emphasized the urgent need to end the hostilities in Gaza and address what they described as Israeli "crimes" against Palestinians. Araghchi expressed support for Qatar's role in mediating the conflict and affirmed Iran's willingness to back any ceasefire agreement reached by the Palestinian Hamas movement.
The meeting marks the first official visit by a foreign official to Iran following Araghchi's recent appointment as Foreign Minister.
Along with his talks with Araghchi, Sheikh Mohammed is scheduled to meet with Iran's new President, Masoud Pezeshkian, as part of his visit.
