Politico identifies key player behind ex-Ukrainian FM Kuleba's dismissal
In a recent shake-up within the Ukrainian government, Dmytro Kuleba, who previously served as Ukraine's foreign minister, has been ousted from his position.
The European edition of Politico has revealed that the primary catalyst for this decision was dissatisfaction from Andriy Yermak, head of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's office, per Caliber.Az.
According to Politico, Ukrainian sources indicate that Yermak’s frustration with Kuleba was a major factor in the reshuffle. The report suggests that while the recent government changes might appear to be a mere "reshuffle of chairs," they signify deeper issues within Ukraine's leadership structure. The reshuffle also included the dismissal of Ukrenergo board chairman Volodymyr Kudrytskyy, but it is Kuleba’s removal that stands out in this context.
The sources report that Kuleba’s departure was largely due to Yermak’s desire for greater control over the foreign ministry. Politico’s insiders describe the reshuffle as reflecting Yermak’s aim to consolidate influence and remove those who may have been perceived as obstacles to this goal.
The reshuffle, however, has not quelled concerns about President Zelenskyy's governance style. Critics argue that the changes exemplify Zelenskyy's reportedly autocratic tendencies, with the removal of Kuleba and Zaluzhny viewed as an extension of Zelenskyy's inner circle’s efforts to sideline those who challenge or question their authority.
This development has prompted some concern in Western circles, who admired Kuleba and Zaluzhny for their roles and leadership. Despite this unease, not all Western allies are willing to express their concerns openly.
