Rating of pro-Armenian Senator Menendez dipping down Disappointing poll results
Pro-Armenian New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez's approval rating has dropped amid a new federal investigation, according to a Monmouth University poll.
According to the results, Menendez, who is up for re-election next year, received 35 per cent approval and 44 per cent disapproval among New Jersey adults. Among registered voters, his approval rating stands at 36 per cent approval and 45 per cent disapproval, down from 44 per cent and 39 per cent, respectively, in 2022, Caliber.Az reports with reference to Politico.
"Public opinion of Senator Menendez has fluctuated from positive to negative over the past eight years," said Patrick Murray, director of the independent Polling Institute at Monmouth University.
“The results of the current poll suggest that the news of a new federal investigation is having an impact on these numbers, and perhaps even more so than the last time he faced a similar situation.”
While Menendez still enjoys Democratic support, overall approval for his performance is down 8 per cent and disapproval is up 7 per cent. In addition, the senator received 14 per cent approval and 74 per cent disapproval from Republicans, as well as 29 per cent approval and 45 per cent disapproval from independent voters - the second-highest share of voters in New Jersey.
Menendez has been involved in a number of federal investigations, with a new one each decade since 2000. Investigators are currently investigating the connections of the senator and his wife with an Egyptian company.
The poll showed that 57 per cent of New Jersey residents have heard of the investigation into Menendez, and about 60 per cent believe it affects his ability to serve the state. Of those who knew about the investigation, 65 per cent believe that it affects the activities of Bob Menendez as a senator.
