Regional countries condemn drone attacks in Saudi Arabia, UAE
A wave of regional and international condemnations followed drone attacks targeting Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates on May 18, with several governments warning that the incidents threaten regional stability and violate international law.
Jordan condemned an attack targeting Saudi Arabia involving drones that entered from Iraqi airspace, describing it as a violation of the kingdom’s sovereignty. The country’s foreign ministry said the attack threatened Saudi Arabia’s security, stability and territorial integrity and violated international law. It also reaffirmed Jordan’s solidarity with Riyadh, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Pakistan also condemned the drone attack on the Barakah nuclear plant in the United Arab Emirates, expressing full support for the UAE. Its foreign ministry said any deliberate targeting of nuclear facilities constituted a grave violation of international law and nuclear safety principles, adding: “Nuclear installations must never be targeted under any circumstances.”
Qatar similarly condemned the drone attack targeting Saudi Arabia, calling it unacceptable and a violation of sovereignty. Doha said the attack endangered Saudi Arabia’s security and regional stability and reaffirmed its support for Riyadh’s right to take necessary protective measures.
Kuwait condemned the drone attack on Saudi Arabia, which it said involved unmanned aircraft entering from Iraqi airspace before being intercepted. The foreign ministry said Kuwait stood with Saudi Arabia in all measures taken to safeguard its security and stability.
Oman condemned a separate drone attack targeting the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the UAE’s Al Dhafra region, calling it a hostile and escalatory act. Muscat expressed solidarity with the UAE and supported steps taken to protect its sovereignty and security.
India also expressed concern over the incident at the UAE nuclear facility, describing it as a “dangerous escalation.” The foreign ministry said: “India is deeply concerned at the attack targeting the Barakah nuclear facility in the UAE. Such actions are unacceptable and represent a dangerous escalation. We urgently call for restraint and a return to dialogue and diplomacy.”
The incidents come after a drone strike on May 17, 2026, hit the perimeter of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in Abu Dhabi. UAE authorities said one drone struck an external electrical generator outside the facility’s inner security zone, causing a fire. Officials confirmed the plant itself was not damaged, no radiation leak occurred, and nuclear safety systems remained stable.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said it was monitoring the situation closely, urging maximum restraint around nuclear infrastructure amid heightened regional tensions.
