Rubio, UK foreign secretary discuss situation in Strait of Hormuz

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has held talks with British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, during which the sides discussed next steps following the conclusion of a ceasefire agreement in Iran, particularly the need to restore freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

Both sides emphasised the importance of ensuring the unhindered passage of commercial vessels and the stable supply of energy resources to global markets, Caliber.Az reports, citing the US State Department.

Earlier, Donald Trump said the US and Iran were "very close" to making a deal and that talks could resume as early as this weekend.

It follows a 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon coming into effect.
