Ukraine faces shortage of Patriot interceptor missiles – WP

Ukraine's armed forces are facing a shortage of interceptor missiles for their Patriot air defence systems, The Washington Post (WP) reports.

According to the newspaper, the Patriot system remains Ukraine's primary means of defending against Russian missile strikes, which have intensified in recent months. However, the country is running low on interceptor missiles needed to operate the systems effectively.

A day earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged Kyiv's allies to provide additional Patriot missiles. He criticised European countries and the United States for not supplying the interceptors, despite, he said, having them in stock.

“Every night without them results in more casualties,” the Ukrainian leader stressed.

US President Trump had previously stated that Washington would grant Ukraine licenses to produce Patriot missile systems. However, in a telephone interview with the Financial Times on July 31, the American president said he was "not sure" whether Washington would move forward with the plan. "We're looking at it," Trump noted.
