Russia plans to resume electricity exports to Georgia
Inter RAO, Russia’s sole operator of electricity exports and imports, plans to resume power supplies to Georgia in early March 2026 following a temporary suspension caused by unseasonably warm weather and heavy rainfall, a senior executive said during a call with investors.
Alexandra Panina, a member of the company’s board and head of its trading centre, said exports were halted in the second half of February after a sharp rise in temperatures and significant precipitation reduced Georgia’s immediate need for imported electricity, Caliber.Az reports via TASS.
“Our supplies were suspended from around the second half of February due to a sharp increase in temperatures and heavy rainfall in Georgia,” Panina said. “However, we are currently negotiating the resumption of deliveries from the beginning of March 2026.”
According to Panina, Georgia had been actively purchasing electricity from Russia at the end of 2025 and continued imports into 2026 prior to the suspension.
Inter RAO is a diversified Russian energy holding company operating across electricity and heat generation, energy trading, retail power sales, power engineering, engineering services and specialised information technology. The company operates in several countries and is present in more than 30 regions across Russia, with an installed capacity of approximately 31,000 megawatts.
